Bhubaneswar, Jul 19: Odisha today celebrated ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ on Friday to mark the day to remember the origin and history of the sweet that is intrinsically connected with the Shree Jagannath culture.
Odisha started celebrating the ‘Rasagola Dibasa’ since 2015 on the occasion of the ‘Niladri Bije’ ritual, the return of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra to their Ratna Simhasana in the sanctum sanctorum of Srimandir in Puri after the twelve-day-long annual sojourn, concluding the festivities surrounding Rath Yatra.
The main aspect of the Niladri Bije ritual is the heavenly love and affection between Lord Jagannath and His wife Goddess Laxmi.
As legend has it, Goddess Laxmi was angry and upset as Lord Jagannath left the Srimandir with his brother and sister without taking her on the Rath Yatra. Goddess Lakshmi was furious over Lord Jagannath not taking her along during the annual sojourn.
Later, Lord Jagannath offered Goddess Laxmi ‘Rasagola’ to pacify her on Niladri Bije.
