Bhubaneswar, Apr 28: Odisha is celebrating the birth anniversary of its legendary son, Barrister Madhusundan Das, who was famed as Utkal Gourav, today.

Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das played a pivotal role in making the special State of Odisha on a language basis.

As the first Barrister of Odisha, Madhusudan Das had proved himself to be the best lawyer in the country and abroad.

There has been an adage in Vogue in the name of Madhusundan Das to inspire Odisha's children to be educated, intelligent, and a patriot like him. The poetic saying is: "Patha Padhiba, Ghoda Chadhiba; Madhu Babu Sange Ladhiba", meaning "Let us pursue higher studies, ride a horse only to be able to fight with Madhu Babu".

Madhubabu fought to make Odisha a separate state on a language basis. He took the issue not only with the India Government but also with the British Government in London. The Odia legend was born in Satyabhamapur village in Cuttack district.

To mark Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das' birth anniversary, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other Ministers garlanded the Madhubabu Statue on the Odisha Assembly premises. A State-level 'Madhubabu Jayanti Utsav' programme will also be organised by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of Odisha today.
