Rs 50 lakh from the house of Niranjan Patnaik, former Minister and ex-president
of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee, at Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar in the wee
hours of Sunday.
The theft was caught on CCTV cameras installed in the house, sources said.
According to sources, a masked robber entered the house of the veteran Congress leader at around 2.40 AM when the family members were asleep.
When the family members realised the presence of an unknown person in the house, they alerted the security guard. The thief, however, locked the room from inside and escaped by breaking the window.

✨Speaking to media persons, Patnaik said that a professional thief might be involved in the incident as the miscreant was seen wearing gloves and masks and using other tools in the crime.
After getting information, the Nayapalli police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
The burglary at the veteran leader’s house in the State Capital poses a challenge for the Commissionerate Police.
