Bhubaneswar, June 8: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Monday approved 10 proposals of five different departments, officials said. The meeting, held at Lok Seva Bhawan, was followed by a media briefing by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, who outlined the key decisions.

Chief SecretaryGarg said, the Revenue Department secured approval for waiving land revenue and accrued interest worth ₹13.07 lakh on 0.70 acres of government land in Cuttack district. The land had been allocated to the Ministry of Home Affairs for constructing an approach road to the NDRF Complex at Mundali. Officials noted that the waiver was granted in recognition of NDRF’s critical role in providing emergency services to the people of Odisha.

The Tourism Department introduced a landmark initiative, the Land Bank for Hospitality Infrastructure scheme. Nearly 5,500 acres of land across major destinations such as Chilika, Konark, Puri, Hirakud, Similipal, and Bhitarkanika will be earmarked to attract large investments in hospitality. With a five‑year budget of ₹1,500 crore, the scheme aims to position Odisha as a premier eco‑cultural tourism hub in India and Asia.

The Water Resources Department received approval for two major projects. The first is the Brutanga Irrigation Project in Nayagarh district, involving construction of a spillway and earthen dam at a cost of ₹194 crore. This project will provide irrigation to 23,300 hectares across four drought‑prone blocks, significantly improving agricultural productivity. The second project is an In‑Stream Storage Structure on the Mahanadi river in Sambalpur, sanctioned at ₹440 crore. It will ensure continuous drinking water supply, groundwater recharge, fisheries development, and tourism activities, including boating near the Samaleswari temple.

The Housing & Urban Development Department cleared four proposals. These include a ₹100.89 crore wastewater treatment plant at the confluence of Gangua nullah and the Daya river, aimed at tackling Bhubaneswar’s water pollution. A ₹112.31 crore 24x7 water supply project was also approved for new Town Planning Scheme areas, ensuring clean and continuous drinking water. Additionally, the Cabinet reduced stamp duty and registration fees for EWS beneficiaries under PMAY‑U 2.0, lowering costs from 6–7% to below 1%. Finally, a ₹500 crore Waterfront Development Scheme was sanctioned to rejuvenate rivers and reservoirs, promote tourism, and enhance urban resilience.

This facility will support the textile and apparel sector while providing safe accommodation for female workers, strengthening Odisha’s industrial workforce.

Officials emphasized that these approvals reflect the government’s commitment to balanced development across sectors, ensuring economic progress and improved quality of life for citizens.
