Bhubaneswar, June 2: Bus fares in Odisha have been increased once again, marking the second hike in just a few weeks. The latest revision raises fares across all categories of buses, with ordinary and express services seeing a 2 paise per kilometre increase, deluxe and AC deluxe buses rising by 4 paise, and super deluxe buses climbing by 6 paise per kilometre.
Under the new Bus Fare structure, ordinary buses will now charge 92 paise per kilometre, up from 90 paise earlier. Express buses have gone up from 94 paise to 96 paise. Deluxe buses have increased from ₹1.31 to ₹1.35 per kilometre, while AC deluxe buses have risen from ₹1.59 to ₹1.63. Super deluxe buses, which saw the steepest hike, now charge ₹2.53 per kilometre compared to ₹2.47 previously.
This comes after a similar fare hike on May 15, when ordinary and express buses were raised by 2 paise per kilometre, and deluxe, AC deluxe, and super deluxe buses saw increases of 4 to 6 paise.
Transport department officials explained that the fare hike was necessary due to rising fuel prices and increased operational costs. While passengers may feel the pinch of higher travel expenses, bus operators argue that the revision is essential to sustain services. With back-to-back hikes in less than a month, commuters across Odisha are expected to face higher travel costs, especially those who rely on long-distance bus service.
