Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall across Odisha till August 25, triggered by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts widespread showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several districts.
On Thursday, intense rainfall with gusty winds and lightning is expected in districts including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Puri, and Balasore. A yellow warning has been issued for 20 districts, urging residents to remain cautious and avoid outdoor activities during stormy conditions.
For Friday, the IMD has extended the yellow warning to 18 districts, anticipating continued rainfall and wind speeds reaching up to 40 km/h. Coastal regions, especially in northern and southern Odisha, are likely to experience turbulent weather, with sea conditions turning rough.

In light of the forecast, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Odisha coast until August 23. The IMD has warned of potential disruptions including waterlogging, uprooting of trees, and damage to crops and infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
The state government has activated emergency response teams
and instructed district administrations to stay on high alert.
