Odisha Braces for Heavy Rain: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 17 Districts

Key Points
IMD forecasts heavy rain and gusty winds in 17 Odisha districts due to twin low-pressure systems.
Residents in low-lying areas advised to stay alert as river levels may rise and waterlogging is likely.
Intensity expected to decrease after July 17, though sporadic showers may continue.
Bhubaneswar, Jul 16: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 17 districts across Odisha, forecasting intense rainfall and gusty winds due to a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and northern Jharkhand.
Districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Kandhamal, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, and Keonjhar are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph.
The IMD stated that the twin weather systems — one over northwest Madhya Pradesh and another forming over the Bay of Bengal — have intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, triggering widespread showers across Odisha’s northern, western, and coastal belts.
