Odisha: Boudh Records Highest Temp, Severe Heat Wave Alert Issued Till March 18

Bhubaneswar, May 16: Boudh district in Odisha recorded the highest temperature in the last 24 hours at 42.5 degrees Celsius, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to IMD, Boudh was followed by Sambalpur at 42.2 degrees Celsius. Five places—Angul, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Titlagarh and Sonepur—in the state recorded the maximum temperature between 41 Degree C and 42 Degree C.

The IMD has further issued red alert for three districts — Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Kalahandi. Similarly, an orange alert has been issued for the districts of Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, and Sundargarh.

"The heatwave is expected to intensify further. Red alerts have been issued for 3 districts, orange alerts for 4 districts, and yellow warnings for 16 districts. According to weather forecasts, there will be no respite from the heat until the March 18. Earlier, Jharsuguda recorded 41.8°C, making it the hottest city, followed by Sambalpur at 40.3°C, Hirakud at 40.1°C, and Bhubaneswar at 37.2°C," said the IMD.

However, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershower at several places in the State starting March 19.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of between March 19 and 20, informed the weather office.
