Odisha: BJP's Jan Akrosh Andolon Enters Fourth Day

Key Points

The Jan Akrosh Andolon, which is being held by the BJP at block and municipality levels against the alleged failures and corruption practices of the Odisha government, entered its fourth day on Friday.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 16: The Jan Akrosh Andolon, which is being held by the BJP at block and municipality levels against the alleged failures and corruption practices of the Odisha government, entered its fourth day on Friday.

Party activists moved in rallies and sat on dharnas in front of their respective block offices. Later they handed over memorandums to BDOs and Municipality Chairpersons and requested them to send the same to the Governor for early action.

"The practice of PC (percentage) taking is rampant in Odisha. Beneficiaries are being asked to pay Rs 3,000 to get a latrine and Rs 20,000 to get a house under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana. While the Narendra Modi government is providing huge funds under different schemes, the Naveen Patnaik government is diverting the funds to run its own schemes," alleged BJP State resident Manmohan Samal.

He said the State government has completely failed to create basic facilities for people during the last 24 years.

He said a scam of Rs 1 lakh crore is being committed by the Odisha government every year.

Stating that the Narendra Modi government has provided Rs 18,83,000 crore to Odisha in just nine years,  Samal said ruling party leaders and ministers have been busy misappropriating government funds by taking 50% PC, while common people have been deprived of benefits.

Samal said the Narendra Modi government has provided huge amounts of funds under MGNREGS and Jal Jeevan Mission. However, the Odisha government has only nurtured contractors with the funds instead of giving jobs to people and providing tap water to households.

Massive irregularities have also occurred in the firming sector. Farmers are facing distress sales as the State government is not procuring paddy from farmers. There has been a miller-Dalal-State government bonhomie persisting for which farmers are suffering a lot, Samal alleged.

The State BJP chief also alleged that lawlessness has turned acute in the State

"A Cabinet Minister was shot dead. The real culprit is yet to be nabbed. The government has always protected the culprits," Samal alleged further.
