Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed Veer Bal Diwas at its State Headquarters in Bhubaneswar on Friday, paying solemn tribute to Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh (aged 7) and Baba Fateh Singh (aged 9), the youngest sons of Guru Gobind Singh, who attained martyrdom in 1704 while resisting forced religious conversion under Mughal rule.

 

Remembering the Sahibzadas

The BJP leaders recalled the indomitable courage of the two young martyrs, who chose death over abandoning their faith. Their sacrifice, along with that of Guru Gobind Singh’s elder sons Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, continues to inspire generations across India.

 

Leaders’ Reflections

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida highlighted that bravery and sacrifice know no age, stressing that even children can become symbols of courage and values. She said Veer Bal Diwas serves as a reminder that the spirit of resistance against injustice must be nurtured in every generation.

Guest speaker Jitendra Singh, Secretary of Bhubaneswar Gurudwara Singh Sabha, described the day as one of reverence, not just remembrance. He noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2022 announcement declaring December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas, ensuring the martyrs’ legacy is honoured nationwide.

 

Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singhdeo emphasized the Sikh community’s tradition of service and sacrifice, urging that such stories be integrated into India’s cultural and educational narrative. Education Minister Nityananda Gond added that students across Odisha schools and colleges discussed the Sahibzadas’ martyrdom, reinforcing values of faith and resilience.

 

Collective Tribute

State Vice-President Bishnu Dash praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to revive forgotten chapters of India’s history. The programme began with Gurbani recitation, followed by floral tributes. BJP leaders and workers also visited Khurda Gurudwara to offer prayers.

 

The observance at the BJP State Headquarters underscored the party’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the Sahibzadas, reminding society that sacrifice, and valor transcend age and remain central to India’s cultural ethos.
