Sambalpur, June 7: An 18-year-old girl in Odisha's Sambalpur district has filed a complaint with police accusing a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader of raping her continuously for three years and assaulting her.

The victim had lodged a complaint against BJD leader Naba Kishore Nayak, a close aide of local BJD MLA-elect, in this regard at Jujumura police station on June 3, 2024.

In her complaint, the girl said that BJD leader Naba Kishore Nayak hired her to work as a maid at his house at Jujumura three years ago when she was 15-year-old.

The girl alleged that Nayak forcefully raped her several times for three years, gave her abortion pills and assulted her.

The accused BJD leader also threatened to kill the victim if she would reveal the matter before anyone, she alleged.

However, the girl managed to share the horrific experience with her mother and sister on May 30 when they visited the accused BJD leader's residence at Jujumura.

When the girl's mother requested the BJD leader to allow her to take the girl to their home on leave for a few days, the accused allegedly misbehaved with the victim's mother and didn't allow the girl to leave his residence, the victim said.

Later, the girl's family members with the help of their local Sarpanch and relatives rescued the girl from the claws of the accused BJD leader and lodged a complaint with the police and sought justice.

Notably, the BJD managed to secure only 51 seats in the recently held elections as compared to the 112 seats it got in the 2019 Assembly polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wrested the power from BJD by winning 78 seats out of the 147-member Assembly.
