Describing the development as a “watershed moment” for Odisha's clean energy journey, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the State would play a significant role in achieving India's renewable energy and energy security goals envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The investments will span a range of renewable and emerging energy sectors, including pumped storage projects, solar and wind energy, hybrid renewable systems, battery energy storage, green hydrogen, green data centres and other advanced technologies.

The MoUs were exchanged in the presence of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo following the inauguration of the Odisha Pavilion and the Netherlands Pavilion at the event.

Investor Opportunities

Addressing a State session on “Investment Opportunities in Renewable Energy in Odisha”, CM Majhi outlined Odisha's long-term strategy to emerge as a leading clean energy hub and become one of India's top five power-exporting States.

He said the State has set a target of sourcing 74% of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2047, while at least 33% of industrial power demand would be met through affordable green energy.

Highlighting future opportunities, the Chief Minister said Odisha aims to develop 7,000 MW of floating solar capacity by 2036, 26,000 MW of pumped storage capacity by 2047, and 1,000 MW of wind energy generation, creating substantial scope for investors.

Centre's Endorsement

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi lauded Odisha's role in India's green energy transition, citing its natural resources, industrial base and port infrastructure as key advantages for renewable energy investments.

He emphasised the potential for investment in energy storage, floating solar, wind power, green hydrogen and green ammonia, while underscoring the importance of collaboration between governments and industry.
