Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: The Budget Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will begin on Monday and will continue in two phases until April 8.
The session will commence with an address by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, marking the commencement of official business in the House.
The session will have a total of 28 working days.
Odisha Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to present the state Budget for the 2026–27 financial year in the Assembly on February 20. The Appropriation Bill is slated to be introduced in the House on March 31.
Speaker Surama Padhy has sought cooperation from both treasury and opposition benches at an all-party meeting to ensure the smooth conduct of proceedings.
Political Parties Finalise Strategy
The three main political parties - Bharatiya Janata Party, Biju Janata Dal and Congress - have held separate legislature party meetings to finalise their strategies for the session.
Opposition parties are expected to corner the government over issues including paddy procurement, PDS irregularities and incidents of violence against women. The ruling party, meanwhile, has said it is prepared to respond to the opposition’s charges.
With the session scheduled to run for an extended period, proceedings are expected to be stormy from the very first day.

Tight Security Around Assembly
The Commissionerate Police have put in place elaborate security arrangements for the session.
A three-tier security system has been deployed inside and outside the Assembly premises. Dog squads, bomb disposal squads, the fire services department and a snake helpline team have been stationed at the venue.
More than 20 platoons of police personnel have been deployed around the Assembly complex. The Assembly premises are under CCTV surveillance.
Temporary police camps and a temporary control room have been set up near the Assembly. AI-enabled cameras have been installed along Mahatma Gandhi Marg for enhanced monitoring. Intelligence personnel in plain clothes have also been deployed at various locations across the capital.
