Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: The election to the post of Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly will be held on November 21, 2023, officials said on Tuesday.
The Secretary of the Legislative Assembly has sent a letter in this regard to all members of the House, informing them that the election will be held at 9.30 am on November 21.
“I am directed to inform you that as per provisions contained in Art. 178 of the Constitution of India read with Rule 7(1) and Rule 7(4) of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Hon'ble Speaker has been pleased to fix the 21st November, 2023 (Tuesday) 9.30 a.m. for election of Deputy Speaker,” reads the letter.

Notably, the post of Deputy Speaker of Odisha Assembly has been lying vacant since the resignation of Rajani Kant Singh from the post earlier this month.

✨On November 8, Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker Rajani Kant Singh resigned from the post. Singh said he resigned from his post to devote more time to strengthen his party (BJD) organisation in his constituency in Angul district.
Singh, a four-time MLA from Angul constituency, served as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly from June 2019.
