Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: The budget session of Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on February 17 and will continue till April 8, a notification said on Friday.

 

According to the notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the session will start on   February 17 with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati’s address. The session will span 28 working days, with a recess scheduled between February 25 and March 8. During this period, standing committees will examine budgetary allocations and departmental demands.

 

Discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address is slated for February 18 and 19, providing members an opportunity to debate the government’s priorities and performance. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the annual budget for 2026–27 on February 20.

 

The budget presentation is expected to be a key highlight of the session, as the government outlines its fiscal roadmap for the coming year. With Odisha facing challenges in infrastructure, agriculture, and welfare delivery, the allocations will be closely scrutinised by both ruling and opposition members.

The Appropriation Bill, authorising expenditure from the Consolidated Fund of the State, will be introduced on March 31. The extended session, running until April 8, is designed to allow detailed debate and legislative oversight.
