Bhubaneswar, Apr 6: In a move to improve access to cooking fuel, the Odisha government allowed migrant workers and students to purchase 5 kg LPG cylinders by showing valid identity proof, while simultaneously tightening checks against black marketing.
Relief For Migrant Workers, Students
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department on Monday clarified that small-sized 5 kg LPG cylinders will be made available through oil marketing companies, especially benefiting those who do not have regular domestic LPG connections.
This step is aimed at addressing long-standing issues faced by students and migrant labourers in accessing cooking fuel.
e-KYC Mandatory For Purchase
Officials stated that only beneficiaries who have completed their e-KYC formalities will be eligible to purchase these cylinders. Consumers will need to present valid identity cards at the time of purchase.
Strict Action Against Black Marketing
At the same time, the government issued a stern warning against illegal hoarding and black marketing of LPG cylinders.
Enforcement agencies have been directed to carry out regular raids and take stringent action against violators to maintain transparency in distribution.
