Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: In a swift and compassionate response to the alleged gang rape of an Odia medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal, the Odisha government has constituted a special team comprising senior police and administrative officials to assist the survivor and her family.
Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra confirmed the development, stating that he has personally spoken to the survivor’s father. The team, which includes officers from Odisha Police and the district administration, is en route to Durgapur to provide all necessary support.

DIG Mishra and Balasore SP are also in constant coordination with Durgapur Police to monitor the investigation and ensure justice is served.

The survivor, a medical student from Odisha, is currently in critical condition and admitted to the ICU. Her father has raised serious allegations against the West Bengal government, claiming a lack of cooperation and stating that had the incident occurred in Odisha, swift action would have already been taken.
Archana Majumdar, a member of the West Bengal Women’s Commission, visited the survivor at the hospital and reported that while her condition is now stable, she remains unable to speak due to severe physical and psychological trauma.
In response to public outrage, the West Bengal Police issued
a statement on social media expressing deep regret over the incident. They
assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urged the public
to refrain from spreading unverified information. The police reiterated their
zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and promised full support to
the survivor and her family.
