All major parties intensify campaigning ahead of November 7 vote.
Nuapada, Nov 2: As the Nuapada by-election campaign intensifies, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) finds itself in a controversy after the District Election Officer barred the use of late MLA Rajendra Dholakia’s photo and video in campaign materials. The decision has triggered political tension, with the BJD alleging selective enforcement and the BJP defending its use of the former leader’s image.
Poster Ban Sparks Political Tension
The District Election Officer, who is also the Nuapada Collector, rejected several BJD posters featuring the late Rajendra Dholakia, citing concerns over potential electoral unrest. The order prohibits the use of his image in posters, videos, or audio promotions by any party. The BJD, however, claims it is being unfairly targeted, stating that the BJP has already used Dholakia’s image in its campaign.
BJD leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar criticized the move,
while BJP MP Pradeep Purohit defended it, saying, “There is nothing wrong if a
son uses his father’s photo in his campaign.”
