Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: The Odisha government Tuesday said there is no reason for people of the state to fear the human metapneumovirus (HMPV) detected in children in some other states of the country.
"HMPV infection is not new. The disease is being detected in increased numbers due to more awareness. It was first detected in 2001.
By now, no HMPV case has been detected in Odisha. It doesn't spread fast. Its intensity can be controlled under medical supervision. So there is no reason to worry," said Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra.
Mishra said guidelines have been issued in the state as no such cases have been seen in the State. HMPV test is being conducted at AIIMS and the NCDC is monitoring the situation.
