Nor’wester Destruction: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Lash Odisha, One Killed

Sonepur, May 4: A devastating incident occurred in Lukapali village under Tarbha police station in Sonepur district as a powerful Nor'wester swept the region on Saturday, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
A woman, identified as Manchi Bagarti, died after a tree collapsed on her while she was returning from her farm.
According to reports, a fierce Kalbaisakhi storm swept through various parts of Odisha, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
The Nor'wester, which intensified around 9 pm, caused extensive disruption to daily life, with uprooted trees and electric poles blocking roads, leaving people stranded in different localities.
While Bhubaneswar experienced intense rain and gusty winds, with recorded wind speeds reaching 74 km/h, areas like Nuapada recorded 48 km/h winds, while Sambalpur saw speeds of 39 km/h.
Despite the destruction caused by the storm, the rains have brought some relief from the extreme heatwave gripping the state.
On the other hand, the weather agency has issued a red warning of heavy rainfall across 25 districts.
