Balasore, Aug 21: In a heart-wrenching incident, an elderly woman was carried on a cot for 1.5 kilometers to reach medical help in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday.

According to sources, Rupi Singh of Deunchakhal village under Nilgiri block, had been suffering from high fever for three days. As her condition worsened, her son Shiv Singh called for an ambulance. However, due to the poor condition of the village road, the vehicle could not reach their home.

The absence of a motorable road prevented an ambulance from entering the village, forcing family members and locals to manually transport her to a nearby location where the ambulance was stranded.

Ambulance driver Debabrata Raul said that the vehicle was unable to navigate the muddy and broken path. Villager Lakshmi Singh expressed frustration over the long-standing neglect of infrastructure in the area, stating that such incidents are not uncommon.
