Rourkela, Aug 21: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela inaugurated the 6th IEEE India Council International Subsections Conference (INDISCON 2025) today, marking the beginning of a three-day global academic and industry convergence focused on “Smart and Sustainable Technologies for Society.”

Organized by the IEEE Rourkela Subsection in collaboration with the IEEE India Council, the conference brings together over 425 paper presentations, four keynote addresses, 18 invited lectures, and a panel discussion, including a dedicated Women in Engineering session. The hybrid-format event hosts 225 participants on campus and 200 online, with submissions from 21 countries totaling 3,570 papers.

Commencing with a welcome note by Prof. Poonam Singh, General Chair, INDISCON 2025, said, INDISCON is the annual international conference of the IEEE India Council, hosted each year by a different IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Subsection in India.

The inaugural session featured distinguished guests including Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, Executive Director (Works), Rourkela Steel Plant, as Chief Guest; Dr. Ashutosh Dutta, Professor at Johns Hopkins University and NIT Rourkela alumnus, as Distinguished Guest; and Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela, alongside Prof. Prerna Gaur, Chair, IEEE India Council. Prof. Sudip Misra, IIT Kharagpur, also joined the dais as General Chairs of the conference.

Mr. Palai urged participants to engage deeply with the sessions, calling INDISCON a vibrant forum for exchanging ideas and shaping the future of technology. Dr. Dutta emphasized the importance of persistence and professional networking, reflecting on his own journey from NIT Rourkela to global academia.

The conference features specialized tracks in AI & ML, IoT, Quantum Computing, Robotics, VLSI Design, Digital Healthcare, and more. All accepted papers will be submitted to IEEE Xplore, ensuring global visibility and academic impact.

Prof. Rao highlighted the need for aligning technological innovation with societal needs, while Prof. Gaur elaborated on IEEE’s global structure and its role in fostering industry–academia collaboration.

Keynote speakers include Prof. Bidyadhar Subudhi (Director, NIT Warangal) and Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra (Director, NIT Agartala), both distinguished alumni of NIT Rourkela.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Susmita Das, General Chair, INDISCON 2025, expressing gratitude to all contributors for making the conference a success.
