Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: The state-wide “NIPUN Week” programme, organized by the School & Mass Education Department, concluded on a high note across government schools in Odisha, officials said on Friday.
The week-long initiative, aimed at strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy among young learners, witnessed vibrant participation from students, teachers, and parents.
The final day saw a festive atmosphere in schools, with special sessions held to engage mothers and educate them on supporting their children’s learning journey. Storytelling, reading promotion activities, and report card displays helped bridge the gap between home and school learning environments.
Focused Learning Through Play
The first two days of NIPUN Week emphasized foundational numeracy, with children enthusiastically participating in math games, puzzles, and story-based activity cards. The third and fourth days shifted focus to foundational literacy, where students practiced reading, writing, and decoding through songs, stories, and interactive games.
These play-based methods have proven effective in helping children grasp core concepts like counting, addition, and subtraction, while also enhancing their language and comprehension skills. Teachers reported noticeable improvements in attentiveness and confidence among students.
A Mission for Lifelong Learning
Launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on September 5, 2024, the “NIPUN Odisha” Mission aims to ensure that every child between the ages of 3 and 8 attains foundational skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic. NIPUN Week is a key initiative under this mission, designed to make education more inclusive, engaging, and community-driven.
The success of NIPUN Week reflects Odisha’s commitment to building a future-ready education system that prioritizes early learning and holistic development. With strong school-community engagement, the program is paving the way for sustainable academic growth across the state.
