Puri, Apr 4: In a shocking incident late Thursday night, unidentified masked assailants broke into the home of tent owner Kumar Chhatoi in Kamadari village, under the Balanga police station limits in Puri district, Odisha.

The assailants allegedly attacked Kumar and his wife Shailabala with iron rods, looting ₹1 lakh in cash, two gold chains, and two necklaces.

Kumar and Shailabala sustained severe injuries, with Kumar's condition reported to be critical. Both were rushed to a hospital in Cuttack.

During the attack, their granddaughter managed to hide under the bed, narrowly escaping harm. The couple's son and daughter-in-law, who were sleeping in a different part of the house, remained unharmed.

The miscreants reportedly broke through the outer gate and the bedroom door to gain entry. After the attack, local police from Balanga station arrived at the scene, along with a scientific team, to begin an investigation.

Authorities are working to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice. This heinous crime has left the community in shock and raises concerns about safety measures in the area.
