AIIMS Bhubaneswar To Set Up Human Rights Cell After NHRC Review

Bhubaneswar, Mar 26: Professor Kanhaiya Tripathi, Special Monitor for Human Rights Advocacy (Human Rights Education and Gender Equality) at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar on March 25.

Review of Human Rights and Healthcare Practices
During the visit, Tripathi reviewed initiatives related to human rights education, equitable patient care and gender-sensitive healthcare practices at the institute.

He held discussions with Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas, senior faculty members and administrative officials.

Tripathi appreciated the institute’s efforts and stressed the need to integrate human rights principles into routine medical practice, including equitable access, informed consent, patient dignity and non-discrimination.

Proposal for Human Rights Cell
A proposal was made to establish a dedicated Human Rights Cell at the institute.

The proposed cell will function as a nodal body to address patient grievances, conduct awareness and sensitisation programmes, organise training for healthcare professionals and ensure compliance with NHRC guidelines.

AIIMS Assures Cooperation
AIIMS Bhubaneswar reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and expressed support for the initiative.

The institute assured cooperation in setting up the Human Rights Cell and strengthening existing systems in line with NHRC recommendations, Biswas said.

Senior Officials Present
The meeting was attended by Dean Dr PR Mohapatra, Deputy Director, Administration, Lt Col Abhijit Sarkar and Registrar Dr Sudipta Ranjan Singh, along with other officials.
