Plantation Drive / NHAI Plants 2.40 Lakh Saplings along National Highways across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The National Highways Authorityof India (NHAI) has launched a major plantation drive — to commemorate ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative — across Odisha, planting more than 2.40 lakh saplings along National Highways.

The initiative reflects NHAI’s commitment to environmental sustainability and greener highway infrastructure, aiming to strengthen the state’s green cover, improve roadside aesthetics, and promote eco-friendly development.

Urban Greening in Twin Cities 

In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, over 2,000 saplings have been planted to enhance urban greenery and beautify city landscapes. This effort has improved the visual appeal of the Twin Cities while contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Bamboo Plantation Milestone 

For the first time in Odisha, NHAI has undertaken bamboo plantation along highways, planting 6,300 bamboo saplings across selected stretches. Bamboo is expected to boost biodiversity, strengthen ecological resilience, and enrich roadside landscapes.

Community Participation and Livelihoods 

The plantation drive has also generated employment opportunities for local communities, engaging them in planting and maintenance activities. This not only supports sustainable livelihoods but also encourages community involvement in conservation.

Through these initiatives, NHAI continues to integrate infrastructure growth with environmental stewardship.
