Slabs Overhauled

India and Singapore signed five agreements on Civil Aviation, Space, Skill Development, Digital asset innovation and Green and Digital shipping corridor. The MoUs were exchanged after the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong in New Delhi today.

GST Reforms

The GST Council, chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, made a landmark decision and scrapped the 12% and 28% slabs. It also introduced a new 40% GST slab for "sin goods" and certain luxury items.

Pradhan Hails GST Slabs

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said revised GST slabs will benefit Odisha, with 5% GST on kendu leaves aiding tribal livelihoods, increased coal GST boosting state revenue, and reduced GST on agriculture tools and insurance easing burdens for citizens.

Odisha Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Nayak announced that the State government will distribute 50,000 Antyodaya houses to economically weaker families to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17.
