Tsunami Warnings Triggered
A massive 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. Following this, immediate tsunami warnings were issued in Russia, Japan, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and multiple Pacific Island nations. Alerts were issued for coastal regions in China, Peru, and Ecuador.

In Balasore, the blocks of Basta, Baliapal, Bhograi, and Jaleswar are among the worst-hit.
Reopening Of Subhadra Portal
Subhadra Yojana, the flagship scheme, aimed at empowering women through financial assistance, is set to enter its third phase. After completion of the third installment, the state government is all set to reopen its official portal on August 9.
Preventing Crocodile Attacks
In response to rising concerns over crocodile attacks, the Forest Department of Odisha will now identify black spots—locations with frequent crocodile activity—particularly in areas adjacent to rivers like the Subarnarekha, Brahmani, and Devi.
These high-risk zones will be marked with signboards and barricades erected on riverbeds.
Senior IPS Officers Promoted

✨Two senior IPS officers from the Odisha cadre are set to join central deputation following approval from the Cabinet Committee on Appointments. The officers — Yashwant Jethwa of the 1994 batch and RP Koche of the 1993 batch — will be appointed to positions equivalent to Director General rank at the Centre.
Two Terrorists Killed
An infiltration bid on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district was foiled today after the Army neutralised two intruding terrorists. Three weapons have also been recovered from the dead terrorists.
New UPI Rules
The National Payments Corporation of India will implement seven major changes to the Unified Payments Interface system starting August 1. These changes include introduction of biometric authentication, limits on balance check, linked account view cap, fixed autopay windows, transaction status checks, payee name visibility, no GST on UPI transaction.
