Subhadra Yojana Payout Released
Under the Subhadra Yojna, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, by pressing a remote, transferred ₹315 crore directly into the beneficiaries’ accounts. The initiative aims to provide timely financial support to women and families, strengthening social security and welfare measures in the state.


Rajya Sabha Polls Begin
The Election Commission of India has begun preparations for Rajya Sabha polls, seeking proposals from states to appoint Returning Officers and finalise arrangements. With 37 seats across 10 states set to fall vacant in April, elections will be conducted to fill them.


Tobacco Products Banned
Odisha government has imposed a complete ban on gutkha, pan masala, zarda, khaini, and all tobacco/nicotine-based food products. The prohibition is enforced under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and FSSAI guidelines, following Supreme Court directives.


Patel Addresses FICCI Awards
At the 14th FICCI Chemicals and Petrochemicals Awards 2025 in New Delhi, Minister of State for Chemicals and Petrochemicals Anupriya Patel highlighted that India’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector is entering a new growth phase, propelled by tax reforms, regulatory simplification, and improved ease of doing business.


Army Personnel Killed
At least 10 Army personnel were killed and seven others injured after a military vehicle plunged into a nearly 200-foot-deep gorge in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.


India’s Gift To Nepal
India has delivered the first tranche of election-related aid to Nepal, handing over 61 double-cab pickup vehicles and supplies in Kathmandu. Deputy Chief of Mission Dr. Rakesh Pandey presented them to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal for the upcoming polls.

US President Donald Trump has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Calling PM Modi a close friend, US Prez Donald Trump expressed confidence that India and the United States would reach a trade agreement.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a steady rise in temperatures across Odisha, signalling warmer days ahead. While no cold wave warnings have been issued, the IMD has predicted light to moderate fog in isolated areas until January 26.
