President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the 79th Independence Day and hailed the Narendra Modi government for its various welfare schemes.

Gallantry & Service Medals
A total of 1090 Personnel of Police, Fire, Home Guard, Civil Defence and Correctional Services have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Independence Day 2025.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said, 233 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry, 99 personnel awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and 758 personnel awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service.
A total of 22 police officers from Odisha will be honoured on Independence Day.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
The Nation is observing Partition Horrors Remembrance Day today. The day commemorates the victims and sufferings of people during the Partition of India in 1947. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the sufferings of countless people affected by India's partition and reiterated the commitment to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together.


SabhaSaar Launched
The Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj launched SabhaSaar, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered meeting summarization tool designed to automatically generate structured Minutes of Meeting from Gram Sabha or other Panchayat meetings’ audio and video recordings.

Metro Rail Project
The Odisha government has announced a fresh proposal for a Metro Rail project under a new framework. The decision was taken during the second meeting of the Ministerial Sub-Committee on Metro Development, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo.

Cheques Clearance Within Hours
The Reserve Bank of India will implement a major upgrade to the cheque clearing system, reducing the processing time from up to two working days to just a few hours starting October 4.

The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over several districts in Odisha as a low-pressure system over the west-central adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.
