Bhubaneswar, Sep 10: In a significant political development, senior leader Amar Satpathy has hinted at the formation of a new faction within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), potentially reshaping Odisha’s political landscape.

Speaking in support of former MP Tathagata Satpathy’s recent remarks, Amar stated that a “new BJD” may soon emerge — formed by current BJD members who feel alienated from the party’s present leadership and direction.

Amar Satpathy expressed concern over the party’s deviation from its foundational principles and policies, warning that if the BJD continues to drift without ideological clarity, more leaders and workers may distance themselves. He emphasized that the new formation would not be an external force but would arise from within the existing BJD cadre.

Drawing a parallel to Maharashtra’s political upheaval, Amar responded to a question about who might become the “Eknath Shinde” of BJD, saying cryptically, “Whether someone is growing in secrecy or has already reached Mathura, who can say?”

His statement has sparked speculation about internal dissent and possible realignment within the party.

This comes amid growing dissatisfaction among senior leaders, with several already severing ties with the BJD. The recent Delhi meetings involving Amar Satpathy and other former leaders have further fuelled rumours of a new political front in Odisha.
