Singapore to design a smart city with IT parks, housing, and eco-friendly zones.

6-lane ring road approved to support future metro connectivity across key districts.

Singapore to submit the master plan within 1–2 months; technical team formed for site analysis.

Bhubaneswar, Sep 1: Following Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s recent announcement, anticipation is mounting around the proposed development of New Bhubaneswar, a futuristic urban hub planned across 800 acres.

The new city will span areas like Malipada, Daspur, Andharua, and Gothapatna, and is envisioned as a sustainable, smart, and inclusive urban space.

Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra confirmed that the Government of Singapore has taken charge of preparing the design and master plan (DPR), modelled after Gujarat’s Dholera GIFT City.

The DPR is expected to be submitted to the Odisha government within the next 1–2 months, with funding support already extended to Singapore authorities.

The new city will feature IT parks, medical facilities, residential zones, commercial establishments, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, open spaces, and non-polluting zones. Industrial institutions will also be prioritized to boost employment and economic activity. The plan aims to create a vibrant, resilient, and globally branded urban centre.

In parallel, the state government is also pushing forward with metro connectivity for Bhubaneswar. While earlier metro plans faced traffic-related hurdles, the government has now approved a 6-lane ring road connecting Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Tangi, which will ease congestion and support future metro infrastructure.

A technical team has been formed to conduct ground assessments and submit reports to the government. Once finalized, the state will collaborate with the central government to initiate the metro project, marking a transformative phase in Odisha’s urban mobility.

These initiatives reflect Odisha’s commitment to modernizing its capital and surrounding regions, aligning with global standards of urban development and connectivity.
