Nepalese Student’s Suicide Case: Govt Committee Summons Three More KIIT Officials

Bhubaneswar, Mar 7: Three more top officials of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University have been asked to depose before the high-level committee probing the alleged death by suicide of 20-year-old Nepalese BTech student Prakriti Lamsal.
The probe panel has now summoned the Director of Student Affairs, Director General of International Relations, and Director of Administration for questioning. Moreover, three students of the University have also been asked to appear before the committee.
On Thursday, a team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) began its inquiry into the matter.
Till now, as many as 10 officials of the KIIT University have been arrested in connection with the case and a total of 13 people, including KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta, have been interrogated by the high-level fact-finding committee formed by the State government.
It may be noted that Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year Computer Science student at KIIT, was found dead in a hostel room of the university on the evening of February 16. It was alleged that she died by suicide.
