Nearly 2,000 kg Gold Found In Odisha's Two Districts, Says Minister Bibhuti Jena

Key Points

1,996 kg of gold found in Deogarh and Keonjhar districts

Adash holds 1,685 kg; Gopur contains 311.07 kg

Surveys conducted by GSI and state mining directorate

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18: In a significant development for Odisha’s mineral landscape, state Steel and Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena on Thursday revealed the discovery of approximately 1,996 kilograms of gold reserves in Deogarh and Keonjhar districts. The revelation was made during the assembly session in response to a query by BJD MLA Ashwini Patra.

Major Deposits in Adash and Gopur Regions
According to the minister’s written reply, the Adash area in Deogarh district holds an estimated 1,685 kg of gold, while the Gopur region in Keonjhar contains around 311.07 kg. These findings mark a major milestone in Odisha’s mining sector and could significantly boost the state’s economic prospects.

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) conducted the survey in Adash independently, while the Gopur exploration was carried out jointly by the GSI and the state’s Directorate of Mines and Geology. The discoveries are expected to pave the way for future exploration, investment, and sustainable mining operations in the region.

Economic and Strategic Implications

The discovery of such substantial gold reserves could enhance Odisha’s contribution to India’s overall mineral output and attract both public and private sector interest. Experts believe that with proper planning and environmental safeguards, these reserves could be tapped to generate employment, infrastructure development, and increased revenue for the state.

The announcement has sparked interest among stakeholders in the mining and industrial sectors, with expectations of further geological studies and feasibility assessments in the coming months.
