Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: The chargesheet in the Nayapally rape case is likely to be filed within 10 to 15 days, Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M said on Wednesday.
The accused, Sridhar Panda alias Santosh, was identified by the survivor during a Test Identification (TI) parade at Jharpada jail today, the DCP informed.
The TI parade was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, with the survivor reportedly identifying Panda as the accused. Police said the case will be taken up in a fast-track court for hearing.
Accused Arrested After Chandaka Encounter
Police arrested Panda on October 4 after he was discharged from hospital following a police encounter in Chandaka.
The accused, Sridhar Panda alias Santosh, was identified by the survivor during a Test Identification (TI) parade at Jharpada jail today, the DCP informed.
The TI parade was conducted in the presence of a magistrate, with the survivor reportedly identifying Panda as the accused. Police said the case will be taken up in a fast-track court for hearing.

Police arrested Panda on October 4 after he was discharged from hospital following a police encounter in Chandaka.

According to police, Panda allegedly entered the survivor's rented apartment on September 30 with the intention of stealing. He allegedly threatened the 26-year-old woman with a fake gun, reportedly designed as a lighter, before sexually assaulting her.
The woman approached Nayapally police on October 1 and alleged that an unidentified man had entered her rented apartment the previous night and raped her at gunpoint.
Police later traced Panda following an intensive investigation involving CCTV footage and mobile phone tracking.
Two Arrested For Helping Accused
Police also arrested two people for allegedly helping Panda after the incident. They included a garage owner and an employee who allegedly purchased the motorcycle Panda reportedly stole while fleeing after the alleged crime.
According to police, the stolen motorcycle was dismantled and sold to a garage in Mancheswar for Rs 30,000. The dismantled motorcycle was subsequently recovered.
Around 300 CCTV Cameras Examined
Police said they examined around 300 CCTV cameras and deployed nearly 100 personnel to trace Panda.

CCTV footage showed the accused wearing black shorts and a light-blue T-shirt. After allegedly leaving the survivor's apartment, he reportedly travelled on foot before taking an Ama Bus to CRPF Square. He then travelled by auto-rickshaw and allegedly stole a motorcycle before going to his rented accommodation in Chakesiani.
Police said he later travelled through different locations, including Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Paradip and Cuttack, before returning towards Bhubaneswar.
Investigators eventually tracked his mobile phone and traced him to Chandaka.
Accused Injured In Police Firing
Panda was injured in his right leg during the Chandaka encounter.
According to police, he allegedly attacked a Sub-Inspector with a screwdriver while officers were trying to apprehend him. Police said two rounds were fired in self-defence, with one bullet hitting Panda in the right leg.
A fake gun and the motorcycle were recovered during the operation.
Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh had earlier said the accused was traced after an intensive operation.
“After 48 hours of intense operation, we were able to trace the accused. Within 12 hours of registering the case, we had the picture of the accused,” the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner also said Panda had previous petty theft cases registered at Khandagiri and Tamando police stations in 2023.
With the TI parade completed, police are now preparing to file the chargesheet within 10 to 15 days, while the case is expected to be heard in a fast-track court.
Police said he later travelled through different locations, including Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Paradip and Cuttack, before returning towards Bhubaneswar.
