Nayagarh Murder Case: Odisha Crime Branch Recreates Crime Scene

Key Points

Investigation revealed that the murder was well planned by the mother-son duo. The officials took the accused, Prakash Mohanty (40) and his mother Souri Mohanty (68), to the crime scene for recreation of the events

Nayagarh, Mar 26: The officials of Odisha Crime Branch, who are investigating the murder of two minor brothers in Dhanchangada village under Fategarh police limits in Nayagarh district, Tuesday recreated the crime scene.

The officials took the accused, Prakash Mohanty (40) and his mother Souri Mohanty (68), to the crime scene for recreation of the events.

Notably, on Mar 10, the deceased children, Akash Mohanty (14) and Bikash Mohanty (9), were found hanging at their residence. Initially, their father, Prakash Mohanty, and grandmother, Souri Mohanty, claimed that the children took their own lives for unknown reasons.

Sensing foul play, the children's uncle, Laxman Nayak, filed a police report alleging that Prakash killed the boys as he intended to remarry following his wife Kuma Nayak's alleged suicide about two and half years ago.

Police said during interrogation, Prakash allegedly provided inconsistent accounts of the incident which strengthened investigator’s suspicion. He later confessed to killing his minor sons since the eldest one Akash was strongly opposing his second marriage plans.

However, investigation revealed that the murder was well planned by the mother-son duo.

Subsequently, a case was registered against Prakash and his mother Souri. They were taken into custody and forwarded to court.
