Naveen's Silence On Waqf Vote Continues To Trigger Comments And Questions Within BJD

Key Points

While senior leaders are raising questions about Naveen Patnaik's attitude towards Pandian, former BJD leader Prasanna Patsani has expressed his displeasure.

Bhubaneswar, Apr 12: Though BJD leaders have stopped holding group meetings after party supremo Naveen Patnaik gave a clean chit to VK Pandian, his silence on the Waqf issue still triggers comments and questions from many within the party.

While senior leaders are raising questions about Naveen Patnaik's attitude towards Pandian, former BJD leader Prasanna Patsani has expressed his displeasure.

"I never expected Naveen Babu to stoop so low. I used to ask why he (Naveen Babu) was uttering Pandian's name. Fortunately, Naveen Patnaik is politically alive. Attempts were made for the political death of Naveen Patnaik as it was done to Jayalalithaa," said Patsani.

Patsani wanted to know what Pandian was doing by going to the Jagannath Temple in the middle of the night and stopping rituals.

MLA Arun Sahoo said that there is a need to reform the party. "Small mistakes are made on the road, but they need to be corrected," he said.

Youth leader Sambit Routray said that an atmosphere of distrust has been created in the party. It is hoped that whatever is in the mind of the workers will be fulfilled soon.

On the other hand, senior BJP MLA Jay Narayan Mishra poured ghee on the fire. He said the BJD will be destroyed like a house of cards. Many leaders of the BJD are in the BJP's link. The day the signal is sent, the BJD will break," Mishra contended.

Meanwhile, Some political analysts have opined that the recent developments in the BJD will not augur well for the regional party. "In the history of the BJD, no one has ever challenged Naveen. But like Dhritarashtra's love for Yudhishthira, Naveen's love for Pandian has been questioned. The BJD seems to be in turmoil now," said an analyst.
