Nabarangpur, July 28: In a shocking daylight theft, a man was robbed of Rs1 lakh and crucial personal documents from a roadside eatery in Umerkote in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Monday.
The victim, identified as Nimai Sarkar from UV-3 Dangriguda village under Umerkote police limits, had reportedly withdrawn the cash from the Union Bank and stopped at the hotel to have some tiffin when the incident occurred.
As per reports, Sarkar placed his bag on a table in the hotel and went to wash his hands. As he returned to take his snacks, a man who had been trailing him allegedly snatched the bag and fled the scene on a Pulsar motorcycle with an accomplice.
The stolen bag reportedly contained Rs1 lakh in cash, land documents, LIC papers, a driving license, ATM cards, and other essential papers belonging to the victim.

✨Soon after the incident, Sarkar immediately filed a written complaint at Umerkote police station. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel to identify the culprits, sources said.
Meanwhile, Sarkar remains shaken by the incident, stating, “I never imagined something like this could happen in broad daylight. I’ve lost not just money, but important documents that affect my livelihood.”
Locals claim that similar thefts involving Pulsar bikes have occurred in the recent past, raising concerns about a recurring pattern of organized snatching in the area.
