Bhubaneswar, Mar 19: The family of Naba Das has met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Wednesday over their demand for a CBI probe into the former minister’s murder case.

CM Majhi has assured the family of a fair investigation, says a CMO (Chief Minister’s Office) release. “The tragic and condemnable murder of former minister Naba Das is under thorough investigation to ensure that the real culprit is identified and brought to justice with exemplary punishment as per the law,” reads the release, quoting the Chief Minister.

Notably, Naba Das' wife Meenati Das, along with daughter Dipali Das son Bishal Das, met the Chief Minister at Lok Seva Bhavan to discuss the progress of the investigation.

The Chief Minister expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and reiterated the government's commitment to re-examining all aspects of the case to uncover the truth. He assured that strict legal action would be taken against the guilty.

The release also says that CM Majhi has advised Meenati Das to cooperate with the investigating agency and assured her that she could personally update him on any concerns regarding the case. He emphasised that both he and his government stand firmly in support of justice.

Dipali, on the other hand, reacting to the meeting with CM Majhi, said that they have also requested for security for the family. According to latest reports, Jharsuguda Police have already assigned a couple of security personnel to protect Dipali.

Disappearance of ECG report

The disappearance of the ECG report from the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, where Nab Das was initially treated after the shooting incident, has sparked significant discussion.

Commenting on the matter, Naresh Nayak, the lawyer of the accused Gopal Das, has stated that during the interrogation of Dr Dolamani Tandi, who treated Naba Das at the hospital, no clear information regarding the missing ECG report was provided.

“The Crime Branch had submitted the injury report and outdoor ticket in the charge sheet but did not include the ECG report – a crucial medical evidence in the case,” he informed. This revelation has added sparks to the ongoing debate surrounding the case.

Investigation Intensified

The Odisha Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the case, questioning the former Minister’s wife on Tuesday and Wednesday. Her statement has been officially recorded and will undergo further scrutiny as part of the ongoing probe.
