Sambalpur, Aug 19: A murder accused, who had been on the run, sustained bullet injuries after being shot at during an encounter with police in the Khendual area under Dhanupali Police Station limits in Sambalpur district.
According to reports, the police, acting on intelligence input, zeroed in the accused, identified as Mohammad Samad. Meanwhile, the accused allegedly opened fire on police personnel, discharging two rounds during the confrontation. In retaliation, police fired back, striking Samad in his left leg.
Following the encounter, he was rushed to VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) in Burla in critical condition.
A firearm, live ammunition, and a motorcycle were recovered from the scene.
Police sources confirmed that Samad had been absconding after committing a murder and was considered armed and dangerous.
