Kandhamal, Sept 15: In a remarkable story of grit and determination, five siblings from a mud‑walled house in Sikabadi village under Daringbadi block have cracked the NEET examination, proving that poverty cannot stand in the way of strong willpower.

Born into a family where daily struggles with hunger and hardship were routine, the children of Bursi Pradhan have turned adversity into triumph.

Their journey began when the eldest son, Bibhishan Pradhan, cleared NEET and joined Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput. He is now completing his internship. Inspired by him, his younger sister Monalisa followed suit and is currently in her second year of MBBS at the same college.

This year, three more siblings — Sunemi, Esariya, and Minakshi — cleared NEET and secured admission in Bhima Bhoi Medical College, Balangir, and Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College, Kalahandi. Minakshi has enrolled at Shri Jagannath Medical College, Puri.

Behind this success lies sacrifice. Their father, a small farmer, sold land, cattle, and goats to fund their education. With limited income from maize and turmeric cultivation, the family struggled to meet expenses.

Yet, the siblings balanced studies with household chores, even grazing cattle when needed. Their dream is simple — to serve the poor and bring healthcare to the underprivileged.

The siblings’ achievement demonstrates that even from a humble hut, success stories can emerge if dreams are pursued with determination.
