Nabarangpur, Aug 17: Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi on Monday participated in a tree plantation event in Jharigam forest zone, engaging with children to raise awareness about the importance of trees and oxygen.
During the event, the BJP MP conducted a unique demonstration with the children, holding his breath for nearly one and a half minutes to emphasize that life without oxygen—and thus without trees—is impossible.
The event, titled “Maa Pain Gachhatie” (A Tree for Mother), was organized by the Jharigam forest division and saw active participation from local leaders including MLA Narasingha Bhatra and DFO Shri Shubhendu Prakash Behera. Together, they planted saplings and inaugurated a newly developed garden in the region.
In a heartwarming gesture, MP Majhi and MLA Bhatra planted a tree alongside two-year-old Adyasha to mark her birthday, extending their wishes through this symbolic act.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi aiming to plant 75 lakh trees across the state. As part of this mission, over 3,000 valuable saplings will be planted across more than two hectares in two separate locations in Jharigam.
MP Majhi and MLA Bhatra called upon citizens to unite in protecting forests and creating new green zones. They emphasized that forest creation is essential for maintaining climate balance, reducing pollution, and preserving biodiversity.
The leaders urged everyone to support the “A Tree for Mother” campaign and contribute to a greener, healthier future.
