Sambalpur, Jul 26: More gates of Hirakud dam are likely to be opened as water level has significantly rose following heavy downpour in the upper catchment area.
Currently, the water is being discharged through 20 gates of the dam.
The water level at Hirakud Dam has risen to 610.00 feet as of 6 AM. Inflow from upstream has reached 4,27,566 cusecs per second, while the outflow is around 3,35,703 cusecs per second.
Due to consistent rainfall in Chhattisgarh, upstream water inflow continues to increase.
Authorities have indicated the possibility of opening more gates soon to manage the rising reservoir level and maintain safety.
Major rivers across the State are expected to witness a surge in water levels due to intense rainfall.
On Friday, the Water Resources Department had issued a high alert, warning officials and residents in low-lying areas about possible flooding.
