Bhubaneswar, Mar 25: A greater number of cesarean childbirths are taking place in private hospitals as compared to Government health facilities in Odisha. Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed the State Assembly today.

In a written reply, the Minister stated that a total of 1,29,088 deliveries were recorded in private hospitals in the State in 2022-23. Of these, 99,998 were cesarean births, accounting for 77.46 percent of total deliveries. In 2023-24, a total of 1,40,126 childbirths were registered in private hospitals. Of these births, 1,13,598 were cesarean, informed the Minister.

According to the government data, the percentage of cesarean childbirths in government hospitals is much less in comparison to private hospitals.
