Odisha braces for monsoon withdrawal with light showers forecast in 15 districts, while Delhi‑NCR faces heavy rains, red alert, and falling temperatures amid thunderstorms and strong winds.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: The southwest monsoon is on the verge of withdrawing from Odisha, marking the seasonal transition. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has already retreated from several parts of the state, and within the next two to three days, it is expected to withdraw completely from Odisha as well as the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation remains active over the south Andaman Sea region. Meteorologists said it is likely to develop into a low‑pressure area today.

However, due to less favourable oceanic and atmospheric conditions, the system is unlikely to intensify further, and preliminary assessments suggest there is no cyclone threat to Odisha.

Currently, no rainfall warning has been issued for the state. Yet, light to moderate showers are expected in 15 districts including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kataka, Nayagada, Khordha and Puri within the next 24 hours.

Moderate rainfall may occur at isolated places on October 17 and 18. Western Odisha, however, is unlikely to witness heavy showers, and weather during the Dussehra festival is expected to remain largely dry.

The department further noted that no major changes in day or night temperatures are likely across Odisha in the coming week.

In contrast, Delhi‑NCR witnessed a sharp weather shift with heavy rainfall recorded overnight and in the morning. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the capital, forecasting more showers on Wednesday.

The downpour, accompanied by strong winds of 40-50 km/h, has led to a sudden dip in temperatures.

Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 24°C and 33°C, with humidity ranging from 70% to 80%.

Partly cloudy skies and scattered rainfall are likely until October 15, with thunderstorms and lightning predicted during this period.
