Bhubaneswar, June 27: Monsoon has intensified across various parts of Odisha. Following this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall and thunderstorm alert to several districts of the State.

According to the weather agency, a low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and the adjoining regions of Odisha and West Bengal.

Due to the prevailing system, an orange alert has been issued for four districts—Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jharsuguda. These areas could experience intense downpours coupled with strong winds and localised thunderstorms.

The weather agency has estimated scattered thunderstorms in the region and light to moderate rainfall across most of coastal and northern Odisha.

Wind speeds may spike in isolated pockets, with gusts potentially disrupting outdoor activities.

The weather agency has also advised citizens to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone or lightning-prone zones.

Officials stress preparedness measures and continuous monitoring as rainfall may intensify under the influence of the low-pressure belt.
