Bhubaneswar, June 12: The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted the return of monsoon rains across Odisha, bringing relief from the recent sweltering heat and humidity. Starting today, temperatures are expected to dip, and a wet spell is likely to persist for the next seven days.
Monsoon-related rainfall is set to intensify from June 14, with several districts expected to receive heavy downpours. Thunderstorms are also likely in parts of the state over the next four days. An alert has been issued for districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri due to the potential for heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds.
In the last 24 hours, Ganjam district recorded a significant 66.4 mm of rainfall, highlighting the onset of active monsoonal conditions. The department also indicated that in the next 24 hours, one or two places in the state might witness intense showers coupled with strong wind activity.
