Weather Alert / Monsoon Gains Strength in Odisha; Heavy Rain Likely from July 1–4

Key Points
Bhubaneswar, Jun 27: The southwest monsoon has become active over Odisha, with weather scientists forecasting heavy rainfall across coastal and interior districts between July 1 and 4. According to noted meteorologist Sharad Chandra Sahu, multiple weather systems are set to influence the state in the coming days.
Sahu said that as many as 30 cyclonic circulations and two low‑pressure areas are currently active, creating favourable conditions for widespread rain. A fresh low‑pressure system is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal around July 2, which could intensify rainfall activity across the region.
“From July 1 to 4, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in several districts of Odisha. Coastal and interior areas will experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning,” Sahu noted. He added that by tomorrow, skies will turn cloudy and the prevailing heatwave conditions will ease, offering relief from the intense heat that has gripped the state.

The India Meteorological Department has already issued advisories for fishermen and residents in vulnerable areas, urging caution during the period of heavy rainfall. Authorities are monitoring the evolving low‑pressure system closely, as its trajectory could determine the intensity of rain and potential flood risks.
With the monsoon gaining strength, Odisha is expected to witness a significant shift in weather patterns, marking the end of prolonged heat and the onset of seasonal rains crucial for agriculture and water resources.
