Sundargarh, Jul 27: A major landslide occurred near Chunaghati in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, severely disrupting traffic on National Highway 520 — a vital lifeline for the region’s mining economy.
Triggered by relentless monsoon rains under the influence of a low-pressure system, the incident unfolded near the Koida mining area, where large boulders, mud, and uprooted trees slid down from the hills onto the highway.
The landslide, which took place on the Rajamunda-Koida stretch, caused a complete halt in vehicular movement. The guard wall near Chunaghati developed deep cracks, and the continuous sliding of debris has turned the area into a high-risk zone.
