Bhubaneswar, Jun 17: The monsoon has now spread across the entire state, bringing intense rainfall that is expected to continue for the next three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rain in multiple districts, urging residents to take precautions.
A low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal early Tuesday morning at 5:30 AM, triggering widespread rainfall across Odisha.
The IMD predicts that in the next 24 hours, districts such as Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, and Mayurbhanj will experience very heavy downpours. Additionally, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Cuttack are likely to witness intense showers.
The sea conditions remain rough, prompting authorities to advise fishermen against venturing into deep waters. The IMD has also warned of localized flooding in low-lying areas and disruptions to daily life.
By June 20, extreme rainfall is expected in select locations, particularly in Mayurbhanj, where two areas may experience exceptionally heavy rain. The IMD has urged residents to stay alert and follow official advisories.
The monsoon’s impact is expected to intensify, with strong winds and thunderstorms accompanying the rainfall. Authorities have advised people to stay indoors, avoid waterlogged areas, and unplug electrical appliances during severe weather.
